Stranded in Samal or Talicud Island? Don't worry! There's a Water Taxi!

(Web article taken from ChoosePhilippines.com)

What does a taxi do for you? Fetch you and drop you where you want to go, right? But what if you’re in Samal Island and there’s no boat available and you have to rush back to the city? Call a water taxi!

Yes, Davao Express Water Taxi can fetch you and drop you anywhere in Samal Island and Talicud Island from its base in Sta. Ana Wharf. It is convenient, fast and safe and doesn’t require a dock or port.

It is also the first in the Philippines and those who are interested to franchise are welcome.

The taxis are made from superior materials (RHIB-Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) and its boat captains are licensed and equipped to handle any emergencies. It can serve as rescue boats when needed and can also be chartered for island tours.

There are two taxis in operation now which is equipped with all the safety gears like life jackets, buoys, emergency lights, fire extinguishers, etc. More units are coming up in the next years.

My group was on a tour of the Tridacna (Giant Clams, Taklobo) in Samal Island near Pearl Farm. What would have taken us a good 45 to an hour boat ride on an outrigger took just around 15 minutes. It was one smooth ride as it glided from wave to wave.

It made us enjoy the tour more as we had more time on the water than on the boat. To add to that, the boat did not take up much space on the sanctuary and caused just a little disturbance to the clams.

So how much does a trip cost? It all depends on the distance from the base at Sta. Ana Wharf.

Paradise Island Park and Beach Resort PhP1,000 for 1-4 people. Additional PhP50 per person in excess of four.

Maxima Aqua Fun and Canopy Tours or Maxima Boat House PhP1,400 for 1-4 people. Additional PhP50 per person in excess of four.

With just over a year in operation, Davao Express Water Taxi has become the vehicle of choice for DavaoeƱos who want convenience at the same time value for their money.
